About Industrial Alchemy LLC
|
Hello! I'm Todd Ninman, artist and owner of Industrial Alchemy LLC. I'm based in Middleton, Wisconsin.
My work is about transformation. I dig through the dumpsters and scan the streets for what others have discarded. I love the challenge and reward creating something new and desirable from refuse. I started making jewelry and home accessories in the mid 90's out of a desire for one-of-a-kind, handmade goods. I was tired of all the mass-produced stuff in the big-box stores. I wanted unique, functional art to wear and to fill my home. I wanted to give my family and friends gifts that I made especially for them. I couldn't help but notice how much stuff people threw away. My grandparents grew up in the Great Depression. They instilled in me the importance of quality over quantity, the concepts of repurposing and recycling, and the value of handmade goods as opposed to mass-produced. One of my grandfather's favorite sayings was "Don't get drastic with the plastic." I delight in finding cast-off things, and either fixing or repurposing. I am continually amazed and dismayed by what I find: furniture a few fasteners from functional, electronics, tools, hardware-all destined for the landfill. I feel like I am rescuing them, and giving them new life! All the items in my shop are handmade by me, and consist of found objects, industrial glue, and whenever possible, found fasteners and paint. I hope you find something in my shop that speaks strongly to you! Thanks, Todd. |
